Shelby Joe Mixon, age 82, passed away peacefully on May 4,2026. Born on December 11, 1943, Shelby Joe lived a life rooted in family, hard work, and the simplest joys he loved most.  

Shelby Joe had a deep love for the outdoors and could often be found fishing, hunting, or enjoying nature whenever he had the chance. He was also a devoted Alabama football fan who never missed an opportunity to cheer on his team. Above all, Shelby Joe was a loving stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose warmth, stories, humor, and steady presence will be remembered by all who knew him.

He is survived by his daughters, Kristy (Shannon) Barlow, Jenny (David) Covan, and Brandy (Chad) Simmons; his beloved grandchildren, Madison, Nick, Jeremy, Devin, and Lillian; and three cherished great-grandchildren.

Shelby Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joe L. Mixon, and mother, Louise Fletcher.

He leaves behind many loving family members, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly and carry his memory in their hearts always.

Funeral Service will be Saturday, May 9, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m. in Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, McKenzie, Alabama, with Johnson Funeral Home directing. The Family will be receiving friends for visitation, starting at 10:00 a.m. until service time.
