Obituary

After a long and meaningful life, Lottie Maxine Hughes Livingston died at the age of 95 on January 2, 2024 at the home of her daughter, Mary Livingston, in Opelika, Alabama. Born in Greenville, Alabama on July 24, 1928 to Julius Hughes and Minnie Ethel Cook Hughes. Her early years were spent in Greenville, and she attended Greenville High School. After graduation Maxine moved to Tampa, Florida, where she trained to become a licensed dental hygienist. She married Kenneth Livingston on July 1, 1958 and through the Air Force, they traveled to Kansas, Nevada, Japan, Colorado, and Virginia before settling in the Friendship Community near Georgiana in 1973. The joy of Maxine's life was her three daughters, Brenda, Julia, and Mary. Throughout her adult life Maxine was an avid collector of antiques, was a skilled seamstress, excelled at making crafts, enjoyed preparing delicious meals for her family and the friends of her children, and had a green thumb. Maxine was quick witted, a skilled conversationalist, and she never met a stranger. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church since 1973 and was a long-time member of the Sprig-n-Twig Garden Club.

Maxine is survived by her daughters Julia Hutsell (Mark) of Johnson City, TN, Mary Livingston (Michael Lutz) of Opelika AL; four grandchildren, Hannah Bradley, Isaac Bradley, Christopher Soroka (Kaitlyn), Stephen Soroka (Olivia), and Cameron Lutz; two great grandchildren, Addison and Harper Soroka; and Jo Ann Matthews who was like a daughter to Maxine. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Livingston; her daughter, Brenda Bradley (Randall); her son-in-law David Soroka (Julia); and her parents, Julius and Ethel Hughes. Pallbearers will be Stephen Soroka, Isaac Bradley, Michael Lutz, Mark Hutsell, Billy Peavy, and Jerrald Peavy. Danny Dean will officiate the service.

Funeral services for Maxine Livingston will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 7th at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Georgiana, Alabama. The family will receive visitors one hour before the service. Graveside services will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
