Jimmy Scruggs

Mr. Jimmy Scruggs, age 77, a resident of McKenzie, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Baptist East Medical Center surrounded by the ones he loved and who loved him. 

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Bryant and Irene Scruggs. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Rebie Scruggs, sons Jimmy Scruggs, Jr. (Katrina), Rodney Scruggs (Larecia), Jason Scruggs (Christi), Dustin Houston (Kayla), and daughter Lynn Tolerson (Bruce), his grandchildren Nathan Scruggs, Katlyn Williams (Brad), Beckham Scruggs, Josh Scruggs (Faleena), Jenna Stanley (Dillan), Hannah Scruggs, Carter Scruggs, Chandler Hatch, Brodie Houston, Branson Houston, Beau Houston, Brett Tolerson, Brady Tolerson, and Brooks Tolerson, his great grandchildren, Zeke Williams, Walker Scruggs, Keegan Scruggs, Atlas Scruggs, and Emmie Stanley. Jimmy is survived by five siblings, Bobby Jean Higgdon, Shirley Whittington, Buster Scruggs, Pat (Leisa) Scruggs and Robert Scruggs.

Jimmy’s pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Jimmy excelled at everything he put his mind to, he was an outstanding little league baseball coach, cook, gardener, supervisor, husband, father, and Paw Paw. He was a relentless Alabama football fan. He retired from International Paper after 38 years and was a well-respected deacon at New Home Baptist Church. Jimmy was loved by his church family and community. He loved the Lord and his family.

Jimmy’s funeral services will be on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at noon at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Georgiana, Alabama, with Michael Holcombe and Lewis Henderson officiating and Johnson Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in New Home Cemetery, McKenzie, Alabama. The family will receive friends at 11:00 am Johnson Funeral Home Chapel.
