Obituary

Bonnie Salter Morris, 94, of Pace, Florida, passed away at Brookdale Senior Living in Pensacola on November 12, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.

Bonnie was born on September 24, 1931, in Butler County, Alabama, to T. J. and Inez Salter. She grew up in the Friendship Community and graduated from Georgiana High School. She was married to Reverend Rual W. Morris of McCullough, Alabama, for 70 years.

Together with her husband, Bonnie served congregations across Alabama and West Florida. She flourished as a housewife and mother. At various times, she also worked outside the home as a secretary, receptionist, and administrative assistant. Her favorite role was that of a teacher's aide. She loved children—her own and those of everyone else.

Bonnie was known for her kindness, sense of humor, strong work ethic, and deep faith. She loved to laugh and entertain—a wonderful gift for a preacher's wife. The pulpit belonged to her husband, but the parsonage dinner table was her mission field. Many, many people enjoyed her hospitality and remarkable cooking. She was especially known for delicious fried seafood and gumbo. Bonnie was loyal to her family, friends, and the causes she cared about. Children were always closest to her heart. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were continually in her thoughts and prayers. She also loved her pets, and many fortunate cats and dogs found a home with her. These brought her great joy. Bonnie enjoyed cheering on Auburn University football—and any team playing the University of Alabama.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Rual W. Morris; her parents, T. J. and Inez Salter; and her brothers, Tommy Salter and Lester Salter.

She is survived by her sister, Betty Salter Branum of Greenville, Alabama and sister-in-law Willene Morris Beck of Atmore, Alabama; her sons, Steve Morris (Pat) of Pike Road, Alabama, and Reverend Dan Morris (Sharmon) of Milton, Florida; her grandchildren Emily Smith (Marchman) of Mountain Brook, Alabama, Wesley Morris (Jennifer) of Deatsville, Alabama, Hannah Branch (James) of Pike Road, Alabama, Reverend Dr. David Morris (Brittney) of Navarre, Florida, and Stephanie Kelsoe (John) of Fairhope, Alabama; and her great-grandchildren Martha Mae and Henry Smith, Ellie and Tripper Morris, Bonnie Branch, Sophie, Ben, and Donnie Morris, and Victoria Morris and Ana Grace Woolsey. She is also survived by many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

A service to celebrate Bonnie's faith in Jesus Christ and her life will be held on Saturday, November 22, at Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel, 218 AL Highway 106, Georgiana, Alabama. The family will receive guests at 10 a.m., and a Service of Death and Resurrection will follow at 11 a.m. After the service, her body will be interred beside her beloved husband, Rual, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Cemetery, 10701 McKenzie Grade Road, Georgiana, AL.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and staff at Brookdale Senior Living and Gentiva Hospice in Pensacola, as well as her church family and friends, for their support during this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial contributions to Embrace Florida Kids and Embrace Alabama Kids (formerly known as The United Methodist Children's Home), at 5414 Highway 90, Pace, FL 32571, and 500 Office Park Drive, Suite 220, Birmingham, AL 35223.
