Obituary

In Loving Memory of Bobby Smith

With heavy hearts and deep sadness, we announce the passing of Bobby Smith, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and respected member of the community. Bobby passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, hard work, and friendship that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Bobby was a man whose life was defined by dedication to his family, his community, and his work. For 54 years, he faithfully served with Newell Roadbuilders Incorporated in Hope Hull, Alabama. Beginning his career as a road mechanic, Bobby's strong work ethic, skill, and leadership earned him the respect of everyone around him as he rose through the ranks and eventually retired as Shop Foreman. His commitment to excellence and unwavering loyalty made a lasting impact on both the company and the many people fortunate enough to work alongside him.

Bobby also proudly served the citizens of hometown through 25 years of dedicated service with the McKenzie Fire Department in McKenzie, Alabama. As one of those who answered the call whenever help was needed, he exemplified courage, selflessness, and a deep commitment to his community.

Above all else, Bobby was devoted to his family. He was married to the love of his life, Patricia M. Smith, for 54 wonderful years, sharing a life filled with love, faith, laughter, and treasured memories. Together they built a family that was Bobby's greatest pride and joy.

Known affectionately as "Pawpaw, or Pop," Bobby had an immeasurable love for his grandsons Whit and Brady and took tremendous pride in the young men they became. his eyes would light up whenever he spoke of them, and his greatest happiness came from spending time with his family and celebrating their accomplishments.

Bobby was also a founding member of a Goldsmith Cul-D-Sac neighborhood family that became so much more than neighbors-it became home. From the very beginning, he helped build not only a neighborhood, but a community filled with friendship, love, and belonging. One of the greatest lessons he ever taught was never to take one another for granted. Every gathering was made special by his warm hugs and his trademark kiss on the cheek, a simple gesture that became a cherished tradition and symbol of the love he shared so freely.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Patricia Smith; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Wendy Smith; grandsons, Whit and Brady Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Lee Newell; nephews, Chris (Amber) Newell, Trent (Kelley), Brian (Laura); brother-in-law, Bill and Lyn Moore, and countless family members, friends, neighbors, and community members whose lives he touched.

Though our hearts are broken by his loss, we find comfort in the memories he leaves behind, and, in the example, he set through a life well lived. His legacy will live on in every act of kindness, every gathering of friends, every warm embrace, and every kiss on the cheek shared among those who loved him.

Funeral Service will be Wednesday, July 8, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Cool Springs. The family will be receiving friends for visitation on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, beginning at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home.
